Real-time Data Sensors
Data from the rain, stage, pore pressure gages are collected at high rates (ranging from 10 hertz to 2 seconds) during rain events and every minute otherwise. Soil moisture is collected every minute. Data are transmitted first by radio from the channel to the ridge and then by cell phone modem from the site to a USGS computer every 4 minutes. After transmission, the data are graphed and placed on web server available to the public.
Stage and pore pressure sensors are located in the partially burned channel bottom at the outlet of the basin (right photo). Rain and soil moisture sensors are located on the severely burned hillslope 20 m above the channel at the radio relay site (middle photo). An additional rain gage is located near the ridge top at the data transmission site (left photo).
